1 large ham bone, or 4 smoked ham hocks, or ½ picnic ham
2 c. great northern, navy, or pinto beans
1 c. chopped onion
2 T. ham base, or to taste
1 T. season salt, or mixture of salt, pepper and onion powder
Gneble (See seperate Recipe.)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Use large kettle to generously cover meat with water.
2. Add beans, onion and ham base.
3. To start this process, bring to full boil then reduce heat and finish cooking slowly.
4. Cook 2-3 hours or until beans are tender.
5. With slotted spoon, remove bone, skin, fat, and meat.
6. Cut up meat and return to broth.
7. Season to taste.
8..Add cooked gneble.

The gneble can be cooked in the soup but Francie says it is best to precook the gneble in water then add them to the soup.
