Lye Soap Recipe

2 qts. water
26 oz. lye
10 lb. lard
⅓ cup borax
⅓ cup sugar
½ cup ammonia
scents (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Add slowly the lye to 2 qts. water in enamel pot, stir with wooden spoon. Cool to 75º
Mix in 1 cup water, borax, white sugar, ammonia.
Heat lard to 85º, then slowly add lye solution (75º) into enamel pot stirring till pudding consistency,(be patient) at this point scents can be added.
Pour into disposable pans, cover with foil, let stand 24 hrs.
When set, but not too hard cut into squares and lift out of pans. Store in airtight container.
Tips:
Soap works well in automatic washer, removes grease and oil from clothes.
Always wear gloves when making, wash skin with vinegar if lye water touches you.
Any type of grease can be used.
