2½ c. flour
⅔ c. sugar
1½ tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. clove
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
½ c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 c. molasses
2 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients, except eggs) for 1 minute.
2. Add eggs and continue to mix until well blended.
3. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch cake pan.
4. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.

Francie cut the cake into square pieces and topped each with a slice of canned pineapple and whipped cream (the real stuff), topped off with a maraschino cherry. WOW! that always seemed special.

Gene even liked this dessert so much that on one occasion when grocery shopping with Gloria, he secretly switched her chocolate cake mix for a gingerbread mix and also added a can of pineapple to her cart without her seeing it until they got to the checkout..
