Ingredients:
250 g flour
2 egg yolks
80 g sugar
1 vanilleshote or vanilla zucker*
100 g finely ground almonds
200 g butter

Directions:
Directions:
Put flour in a bowl first, then put cold butter in and cut into pieces. Add all the other ingredients and mix quick like a pastry. Chill for 60 minutes. Roll out on floured board. Cut dough into stripes and roll with hands to form what looks like a long snake. Cut in 2” pieces. Curve each piece into the shape of a half moon and pinch the ends. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cookies should be light brown on bottom and white on top. Cooking time may need to be adjusted. After they are cooked but while they are still warm roll in; 50 grams of powdered sugar and 2 packages of vanilla zucker.

Personal Notes:
These were often found at Grandma's house during Christmas time.

*Vanillin-Zucker is vanilla sugar. Commonly found in packages in Germany. A package has 8-9 grams of vanilla sugar. From the internet: Using Vanilla Extract Instead of Vanilla Sugar: One teaspoon of vanilla extract is the equivalent of 1 1/2 teaspoons of homemade vanilla sugar, or 1 teaspoon of commercially made vanilla sugar. Keep in mind that vanilla extract is not sweetened, so add an extra 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar per teaspoon of vanilla extract called for in the recipe. I haven't actually tired substituting it, but if I did, I would replace the packet with 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and 1 1/2 tsp. sugar.
