Ingredients: 2 cups granulated sugar
1 3/4 cup flour [ use cake flour]
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup water , boiling
1/2 cup crisco
4 bars unsweetened chocolate
2 egg
2 cups marshmallows [cut into 1/3's]

Directions:1Put Crisco and chocolate in a mixing bowl. Pour boiling water over them and stir until entirely dissolved.
2 Add sugar and sour milk. Stir until sugar is dissolved
3 Sift dry ingredients together 3 times then add to bowl
4 S ir just enough to wet flour.
5 Add unbeaten eggs. Beat lightly until smooth [about 2 minutes]
6 Bake in a 9 x 13 pan @ 350 until done [time is not on recipe]
7 Place sliced marshmallows on cake side by side tightly when it comes out of oven
8 Cover cake/pan with a cookie sheet to help melt marshmallows
9 When cool, frost with chocolate frosting over marshmallows and cake
serves 12 |
