⅔ c butter
⅓ c sugar
2 egg yolks, reserve whites.
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp salt
1-½ c flour
¾ c finely chopped walnuts
preserves, Hershey Kisses, gum drops or icing

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and salt and beat well. Gradually add flour, mixing well. Shape into ¾-in balls. Dip into slightly beaten egg whites. Roll in walnuts. Place 1 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Press down in the center with a thumb. Bake at 350ºF for 15 to 17 minutes. Cool slightly. Remove from pan and cool on a rack. Top the thumbprint with preserves, Hershey Kisses, gumdrops or icing.
