1 cup shortening or butter
2 cups white sugar
2 eggs unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk ( put 1 t. vinegar in cup and fill with milk)
2 level t. spoon baking soda
pinch of salt
4 and ½ cups unsifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add unbeaten eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk mixing thoroughly to make soft dough. Put in refrigerator for several hours o overnight. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 11 minutes.
