3 1½ 1 - ounce squares unsweetened chocolate

3 cups sifted confectioner's sugar

4 ½ tablespoons hot water

1 egg

½ cup soft butter or margarine

1½ teaspoons vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate in mixing bowl over hot water. Remove from heat. With electric mixer blend in sugar and water. Beat in egg, then butter and vanilla. Frosting will be thin at this point, so place bowl in ice water; beat till of spreading consistency. Frosts top and sides of two 9 - inch layers.

It's a fluffy, light-chocolate frosting when whipped by mixer. For darker, more glossy frosting, beat with a spoon.

This recipe along with the feathery fudge cake came from "The Better Homes and Garden " cookbook that I acquired before I graduated from Auburn University in 1966. It was there with me when I lived in the home management house and has been greatly loved and used. It is in tatters in 2019.It is still in my collection of cookbooks. I cannot give you the copyright date as that page is missing.
