Ingredients:
1.5 cups shortening (not butter or margarine)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
4 cups flour (sifted)
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
4 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening. Beat eggs. Add sugar, shortening (slightly cooled but still melted) and molasses to eggs and beat well. Sift in dry ingredients, about 1/4 cup at a time and mix. Chill dough at least 2 hours

Form into small balls about size of a quarter and place on cookie sheet. Grease cookie sheets (once - if reusing tray for multiple batches) Bake at 350 degrees for 7- 9 minutes. Do not overcook. Remove from stove when they are puffed up - like a half globe. They will deflate when you remove them from oven and place on a cooling rack.

These are the BEST Molasses Cookies you will ever have. Consider cooking for less time if you would like the cookies to be softer. This is a famous family recipe from Mrs. Bronski (one of my best friends from the cape, his mother Mary). This recipe is marked as PRIVATE because it was a very closely held secret and took many years to get a copy and only given if not to be shared in public. Enjoy!
