½ cup butter
12 ounces brown sugar
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
4 to 6 cooking apples

In a large heavy skillet, melt butter and stir in brown sugar and vinegar. Heat until bubbling.

Peel, core, and slice apples 1 to 1 ½-inches thick. Place apple slices in syrup and cook until brown and caramelized, being careful not to burn. The apples should be tender when pricked with a fork.
