2 cups water

3 Tablespoons shortening (Crisco)

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup sugar

2 packages of yeast

2 eggs

6 to 7 cups flour

2 Tablespoons of butter

4 Tablespoons of warm water

Preheat oven to 425.

Prepare muffin tins with shortening.or nonstick spray. Not the 3 Tablespoons listed above. 24 cups(2 dozen in total).

Place the following in small pan and heat thru: water, sugar, salt and shortening

After heating and mixing, place mixture in a large bowl and let cool.

Dissolve 2 yeast packets in 4 Tablespoons of warm water. (Do not use hot water or it will kill the yeast and rolls will not rise.) Then add the mixture into the large bowl with other ingredients.

Add eggs and beat with electric mixer.

Add flour one cup at a time, using mixer for the first 3 cups, then stir in remaining flour totalling 6 to 7 cups of flour.

Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

Remove from refrigerater one hour before kneading.

After kneading (by hand or kneading attachment of mixer)

Pull one ball at a time. The size is about 1½ inches in diameter. Place 2 in each prepared muffin cup.

Bake at 425º for 10 minutes or until rolls are browned.

This recipe was handed down to Gram from a church friend. They made the rolls on Saturday evening so they could be set out to rise while in church. They are still the hit at our Sunday dinners or anytime. Our family loves to have black raspberry preserves with these rolls.
