½ cup butter
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
2 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
12 ounces raspberry preserves
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add egg yolks one at a time and beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Mix. Stir in dry ingredients.

Pat dough into a 9 by 13-inch pan. Spread with preserves. Top with half the nuts. Beat egg whites with 2 tablespoons sugar in a clean, dry bowl until stiff peaks form. Spread egg whites on top of the pastry. Sprinkle remaining nuts on top of the egg whites.

Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.
