1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
5 cups flour
½ c. cocoa
1½ t. salt
1 c. sour milk
2 t. baking soda
1 c. hot water
Filling:
2 egg whites
2 t. vanilla
2 t. milk
4 c. powdered sugar, divided
1 c. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Beat together shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift together flour, cocoa and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with the sour milk. Dissolve soda in 1 c. hot water and add to mixture, stirring thoroughly. Bake at 350º.
To make filling, beat 2 egg whites. Add vanilla, milk and 2 c. powdered sugar. Beat thoroughly. Mix together butter and 2 c. powdered sugar. Combine the two mixtures. Wait until the cookies are cold to put filling in or it will run.
