Apple Grunt Recipe

c. sugar
2 T. shortening
1 egg
1 c. flour
t. salt
1 t. baking powder
t. soda
c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 c. sliced apples
t. vanilla
Crumb topping:
6 T. brown sugar
1 t. flour
t. cinnamon
1 T. Butter

Preheat oven to 375. Cream sugar and shortening together. Add egg and beat. Add soda to sour milk and stir into mixture. Mix dry ingredients together and add to mixture, beating thoroughly. Add sliced apples and blend into mixture. Pour into greased 8x8 inch pan. Rub together crumb ingredients and sprinkle over top of mixture. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Serve hot with rich milk.
