1 cup Crisco, butter flavored
1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
4 cups all purpose flour
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 ½ tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
Frosting, sparkling sugar and decorator sprinkles (optional)

Beat shortening, sugar and brown sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Add milk and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and slat in separate large bowl. Add gradually to shortening mixture, beating until well blended. Cover and chill 1 hour.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out 1/3 of dough at a time on lightly floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with floured 2-to 3-inch cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sparkling sugar and decorator sprinkles, if desired.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely. Frost and decorate as desired.
