Cake:
1 c quick oatmeal
1/2 c butter or shortening
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c flour
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla

Topping:
1/4 c melted butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c cream or evaporated milk
Dash vanilla
1/2 c chopped nuts
3/4 c flaked cocunut

Cake: Pour 1 1/4 c boiling water over 1 c quick oatmeal (I have used regular oatmeal too). Let stand about 15-20 minutes. Cream the butter, sugars and beat in the 2 eggs. Add the oatmeal mixture, mix well. Add the flour and the rest of the ingredients. Put in a greased & floured pan. Bake 350 for 30-35 minutes.

Topping: Mix all ingredients and spread over warm cake then broil. Watch closely so it doesn't burn. Only takes a couple of minutes.
