8 pounds medium or small cucumbers
2 cups hydrated lime
2 gallons water
2 qt vinegar (or less according to taste)
8 cups white sugar
1 T salt
1 t celery seed
1 t whole cloves
1 t mixed picking spices

Directions:
Directions:
Slice medium cucumbers in 1/4 inch slices, or spit small cucumbers lengthwise. Pour a solution of 2 cups line and 2 gallons of water over cucumbers, letting them soak for 24 hours. Pour out lime water and rinse well and cover with fresh cold water. Let soak 3 more hours. Drain, add sugar, vinegar, spices and enough water to cover the cucumbers. Let stand overnight. In the morning boil gently for 30 to 40 minutes. Pack in sterilized jars and seal.
