INGREDIENTS

1 bar of German Sweet Chocolate

cup of boiling water

1 cup of butter

2 cups of sugar

4 egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups of Swans Down Cake Flour

1 teaspoon of baking soda

teaspoon of salt

1 cup of Buttermilk

4 egg whites stiffly beaten

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven at 350.

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Let Cool. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time beating after each addition. Add vanilla and melted chocolate; mix until blended. Measure sifted flour, soda and salt and sift together. Then add flour mixture, and buttermilk alternately to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Fold in egg whites. Pour batter into three 8 or 9 inch nonstick pans. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.

FROSTING INGREDIENTS

1 cup evaporated milk

1 cup of sugar

3 egg yolks slightly beaten

cup of butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 to 2 cups of Bakers Angel Flake Coconut

1 to 2 cups of chopped pecans

FROSTING DIRECTIONS

In a large saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla over medium heat. Cook until mixture thickens and bubbles for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Let cool and then frost cake once frosting is at room temperature.
