Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 1 cup butter, softened and divided 2 cups flour, divided 2 tablespoons cold water 1 cup water 1 teaspoon almond extract 3 eggs Confections sugar glaze Chopped or slivered almonds, toasted
|
|
Directions: |
Directions:Heat oven to 350°F. Cut ½ cup butter into 1 cup flour until mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons cold water over the mixture and mix with a fork. Shape into 2 balls. Pat out each ball on an ungreased baking sheet to 12 by 3-inch strip. The strips of dough should be at least 3 inches apart. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, heat ½ cup butter and 1 cup of water to rolling boil. Remove from heat and quickly stir in almond extract and 1 cup flour. Return to low heat and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball, about one minute. Remove from heat and beat in the 3 eggs all at once, until smooth. Divide this mixture in half, spreading each half over the dough strips, covering the dough completely.
Bake in the center of the oven for about 60 minutes or until the topping is crisp and brown. Cool. Frost with Confectioners Sugar Glaze and sprinkle with toasted almonds. |
