Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
5 cups flour
1 tablespoon vanilla
½ pound walnuts or pecans, chopped
½ cup sifted unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs in a large bowl with an electric mixer until thick, about 2 minutes. Add sugar, mixing well. Add baking powder, then add flour a bit at a time until just incorporated. Add vanilla and nuts until well blended. Remove half the dough from the mixing bowl. Then add the cocoa powder to the remaining dough, mixing well. Break off an equal part of plain and cocoa dough. Form each part into a separate rope, about ¾-inch in diameter. Braid the plain and cocoa dough ropes. Place on a cookie sheet and bake on the middle rack of the oven at 350°F for about 17 minutes, until just starting to get a little brown at the edge of the plain dough. Cool cookies on a rack for 15 to 20 minutes. Cut warm dough with a large serrated edged knife into 1-inch pieces. Place the slices cut side up back onto the baking sheet. Bake for an additional 6 to 10 minutes on each side. Slices should be lightly toasted.
