Trim crust from bread.
Butter bread on one side.
Line 11 1/2"x7 1/2" x 1/2" baking dish with bread, buttered side up, cover with grated cheese, add the next layer of bread, ending with cheese on top.
Mix eggs, milk and seasonings, pour over layers.
Cover well with aluminum foil and store in refrigerator over night.
Bake in 325º oven for 45 minutes or until firm.
It puffs all up and gets brown and is quite impressive.
Bring it to the table before you cut it!
Let stand a few minutes, cut into squares and serve.
