⅓ cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1-½ cup dark molasses
½ cup cold water
6 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. In a small to medium bowl, mix together shortening, brown sugar, and molasses.
3. Stir in ½ cup cold water.
4. In a large separate bowl, mix together flour, salt, and spices.
5. Add the shortening, brown, sugar, and molasses mixture to the flour mixture and stir.
6. Dissolve 2 tsp. baking soda in 3 Tbsp. cold water, and stir into dough.
7. Chill dough.
8. Roll out dough very thick (½ inch).
9. Cut with cookie cutter.
10. Bake for 15-18 minutes.
