Cake:
2 cups sugar (scant) - or 1 ¾ cups sugar with ¼ tsp. salt
½ cup butter
½ cup milk (sour milk)
2 eggs - or Egg Beaters
4 Tbsp. cocoa (in 1 cup boiling water with 2 tsp. baking soda)
2 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
salt

Frosting:
1 box powdered sugar
3 Tbsp. cocoa
Butter - about the size of an egg (soft)
1 Tbsp. Crisco
salt
vanilla
half & half

Directions:
Directions:
Combine 2 cups sugar and ½ cup butter. (Janice made the notation to use ¼ cup less sugar and add ¼ tsp. salt.) Add 2 eggs and 1 cup milk. (Janice notes "sour milk" - buttermilk.)

Combine 4 Tbsp. cocoa in 1 cup boiling water with 2 tsp. baking soda. (Janice notes only 1 tsp. baking soda.) Add cocoa mixture to wet ingredients. Add 2 cups flour, 1 tsp. vanilla and salt.

Bake at 350º in loaf pan for about half hour. (Janice notes "or 24 cupcakes for 20 to 25 minutes.")

Chocolate frosting - Add 3 Tbsp. cocoa to 1 box powdered sugar (16 ounces) and combine with butter, Crisco, salt and vanilla. Add "half & half to finish."
