1½ cups sugar
¼ cup shortening
3 large eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
2½ cups cake flour
1¼ cups milk
2½ tsps. baking powder
2 tsps. ground ginger
2 tsps. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. ground cloves

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour pans. Mix all ingredients together and pour into pans. Bake till toothpick inserted comes out clean.
