4 c sifted flour
1 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp nutmeg
1 c sugar
1 egg
2 c milk
2 tbs melted shortening
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients.
Chill. Roll out 3/4 in thick on lightly floured board. A soft dough makes light, tender doughnuts when cooked. Fry in deep fat (360º - 370º) and drain on unglazed paper.
