Temperature 400F

1 cup brown sugar
1 cups fine rolled oats
1 cups sifted all-purpose flour
tsp salt
tsp cinnamon
cup shortening
2 cups date filling
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Measure brown sugar, rolled oats, flour, salt, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
2. Rub in shortening until mixture is crumbly.
3. Spread half the mixture into a shallow 8'x12" pan; press down level.
4. Spread with date filling.
5. Add remaining half of crumb mixture; press flat with spoon.
6. Brush with mixture of egg yolk and water.
7. Bake in moderate oven till done. When cool, cut into squares.
