3 cups flour 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
2 cups sugar 1 c butter, softened
1 tsp baking powder 2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt 4 eggs
½ tsp baking soda

Butter Sauce
¾ cup sugar ½ cup butter
3 tablespoons water 2 tsps vanilla or rum

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease (not oil) and flour a 10-inch tube pan or 12-inch flute pan. In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Ina separate bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine with dry mixture. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Butter Sauce

In a saucepan, heat sugar, butter, and water until butter melts. Do not boil. Remove from heat Add vanilla or rum. Prick cake 10-12 times with a long tined fork. Slowly pour hot sauce over warm cake. Cool completely before removing cake from pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
