Applesauce cake Recipe

Mary Forget


1 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp.salt
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 cups flour

raisins or currants or both

Mix applesauce and baking soda. Than add shortening and beat.
Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together.
When adding raisins, flour them before adding them to batter.

Preheat oven to 400 F and lower the temperature before adding cake to oven.
Bake 1 hour in moderate oven @ 350 degrees .
