1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 lb cut dates
1/2 cups shredded coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup oatmeal

Directions:

Sift flour and measure. Add salt, soda and sift again. Cream butter, b sugar until mixture is light and fluffy. Add vanilla and blend. Add eggs beTing after each addition. Add flour ,dates, oatmeal,coconut and nuts. Roll dough in balls the size of walnuts and flatten on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees 10 min
