In a letter to her daughter, Janice:

"Here is that pop corn ball recipe. Cook to soft ball stage 2 cups sugar, 1 cup white syrup, and ⅓ cup water. Pour over 8 quarts pop corn. Take your time making the balls as it does not harden. If you want to color them, add the coloring after you remove from fire. Love, Mom"

Personal Notes:
Given the brief instructions above, I have added the following tips (from "Afternoon Tea at Pittock Mansion, Recipes & Reminiscences"):

1. Make the popcorn and keep it warm in an oven at very low heat, about 250º F.
2. Lightly butter or oil a large, heavy saucepan and a scoop (to be used later to shape the popcorn balls).
3. Combine sugar, water, and corn syrup in the saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Cook over medium heat without stirring until the mixture reaches the hard crack stage (270º F on a candy thermometer).
4. Remove from heat and immediately pour over the warm popcorn, mixing well. Using buttered hands and scoop, quickly form into balls and set aside to cool.
