2 c sugar
1 3/4 c flour
3/4 c cocoa powder
1 1/2 t baking powder
1 1/2 t baking soda
1 t salt
2 large eggs
1 c buttermilk
1/2 c oil
2 t vanilla
1 c boiling water

Coconut Frosting:
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 c butter
3 large egg yolks
3/4 c evaporated milk
1 T vanilla
1 c chopped pecans
1 c shredded coconut

Chocolate Frosting:
1/2 c butter
2/3 c cocoa powder
3 c powdered sugar
1/3 c evaporated milk
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Oven 375º. Grease two 8 or 9 inch round baking pans.

Cake: Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In separate bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Add wet and dry ingredients and stir well. Stir in boiling water (batter will be very thin). Pour into prepared pans. Bake 25-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes then invert to cool completely.

Coconut Frosting: In saucepan, add brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg yolks and evaporated milk. Stir and bring to low boil over medium heat. Stir constantly for several minutes until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat, add vanilla, nuts and coconut. Cool completely before layering on cake.

Chocolate Frosting: Melt butter. Stir in cocoa powder and alternate powdered sugar with milk. Add small amount of milk if needed. Stir in vanilla.

Assembly of cake:
place one of the cake rounds on the plate. Smooth layer of chocolate frosting over it, then half the coconut frosting, leave about 1/2 inch between filling and edge of cake. Stack second cake round. Smooth chocolate frosting over entire cake. Spoon coconut frosting on top.
