For cookies:
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 large egg
2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. ground nutmeg
1 c. apple, peeled and finely chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. raisins

For Glaze:
2 1/4 c. confectioner's sugar
1 1/2 T. butter
3/4 t. vanilla
4 T sugar
cream as needed

For the cookies:
Beat together shortening and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg thoroughly.

Sift together dry ingredients. Stir 1/2 dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts, apples, raisins. Then stir in the remaining dry ingredients.

Drop by tablespoon 1 1/2" apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 400º for 10 - 12 minutes.

Remove from cookie sheet and glaze with still warm.

For the glaze:
Combine confectioner's sugar, butter, vanilla and sugar. Use enough cream to make glaze spread easily.
