1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup butter
1 lb. (about 4 cups) powdered sugar
2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and butter.
Add sugar, milk and vanilla.
Blend on medium speed until all ingredients are well mixed.
Beat until creamy, about one minute.

Variations: Chocolate can be made by adding 3 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate and 1 additional T. milk to the basic recipe.

This makes a stiff frosting but it can be thinned to proper consistency for a variety of decorating techniques.
