Notes: My wife’s mother, Terri, passed this recipe along to us. The dish was a birthday favorite of hers growing up. When I first tried this dish early in our relationship, Kate, my wife, described the dish as a traditional Yugoslavian dish. As I do frequently, I checked the source to confirm it’s authenticity. Sure enough, the internet (which never lies) stated the dish was a popular recipe served by a chef in NYC in the earlier 20th Century. Nevertheless, the dish is amazingly good and now it’s an ongoing joke that this meal was from the motherland. We’ve been able to clean the ingredients up a bit and still maintain its classic, comfort food fit in our family. Eat clean! Love hard! Check your sources.
