Kolaches Recipe

1 1/4 C milk
1 1/4 C water
1 t salt
½ C sugar
2 pkgs yeast (3T)
Soak yeast in water and little sugar
2 eggs beaten
6 T lard or shortening, melted
6 C flour

Directions:
Directions:
Flour sponge
Scald milk and water.
Cool to lukewarm.
Take out ½ C and add the yeast and 1 T sugar.
Let stand for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, mix liquid, yeast and salt,
eggs, and 2 C flour. Beat, add shortening, beat, add flour to make a soft dough.

Knead. Place in a greased bowl, let rise 1/1/2 hours. Punch down, let rise again.

Shape into balls, let rise. Stretch and fill (about a small T). Fold envelope style.
Put in a baking pan,(greased). Brush with shortening between and top of kolaches.
Bake at 350º till golden brown.
