2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 squares chocolate, melted
1 cup oatmeal, uncooked
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together. Add butter, egg, chocolate and vanilla. Beat. Stir in oatmeal and nuts if desired. Roll into small balls and flatten with glass bottom dipped in sugar. Put on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.

These can be rolled into a log, refrigerated and sliced for a crisp cookie.
