1/2 c. butter
1 c. dark brown sugar (packed)
1/4 c. milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 c. powdered sugar

Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in brown sugar. Boil and stir over low heat for two minutes. Stir in milk; bring to a boil stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Cool until lukewarm. Add vanilla Gradually stir in powdered sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread

This is the only frosting you should put on a spice cake (boxed or homemade). Never listen to someone who tells you you can use cream cheese frosting...it's delicious but a spice cake's soul mate truly is penuche frosting.
