1 cup shortening or butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1½ tsps. vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375ºF. In a large bowl beat shortening or softened butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar, until fluffy. Beat in vanilla and eggs until creamy. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually blend into creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if using. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375ºF for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Makes 4 dozen.
