1 medium onion, chopped
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. ketchup
1 c. hot water
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. Worcester sauce
1 tbsp. yellow mustard
1 tsp. liquid smoke
2 tsp. paprika

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, melt butter and saute onion till soft and golden. Add ketchup, water and other ingredients as given. Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes stirring frequently to prevent sticking on the bottom of the pan.

For Sloppy Joes:
Brown ground meat and add to the sauce but do not boil. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes.

My mom uses this sauce recipe for spare ribs, chicken and pork, so she often plays around with the brown sugar & vinegar, adding more sugar and less vinegar or vice versa. It's a very versatile sauce.
