Ingredients:
1 1/2 c. flour
1 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
1 egg
1/2 c. plus 1 T. sugar
2 T. butter, softened
2 T. vegetable shortening

1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/4 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Stir to combine. Lightly beat the egg in a separate bowl. Add sugar, butter and shortening and mix well with a electric mixer until smooth. Add half and half, milk, buttermilk and vanilla. Mix well. Add wet mixture to the dry mixture while beating. Mix only briefly. It's okay if there are small lumps in batter. Cover and chill overnight. (You can use batter right away if you like, but a good 12 hour chill makes a better batter.)
