Ingredients:
Bottle of grape juice
a pinch of ground cinnamon
a pinch of ginger
6 pears, ripe but not too soft

Directions:
Directions:
Put the grape juice and spices in a saucepan large enough to take all the pears in one layer, stems upward. (Don't add the pears yet.) Bring just to a boil, then simmer gently.

Using a vegetable peeler, peel the fruit, leaving the stems intact. Slice off a small portion of the bottom of the pears, so that they will stand easily. Put into the poaching liquid, stems upward. Poach for 15-25 minutes, until tender. Remove from the syrup with a slotted spoon. Cool. Serve with whipped cream (sweetened with brown sugar).

Tasty, healthy, easy, and oh-so elegant. (Even healthier if you reduce the poaching liquid and serve the pears with that liquid instead of whipped cream.)
