Directions:
Beat eggs with sugar, add 2 cups warm milk and yeast, stirred in warm water. add salt, cardamon pods and half of the flour (4 cups) to make a stiff, gruel like mixture. Work this mixture until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Add remaining flour together with the butter which is either is either melted or beaten to a foam. Knead the mixture into a pliable dough, cover with a baking cloth and leave in a warm place to rise. When the dough has doubled in bulk, knead it on a floured surface and shape it into three small rounds or long plaits made from ropes of even thickness and braid. Lay these on a baking sheet and let rise again. Brush the dough with one egg beaten with about 2 Tablespoons milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 20 to 30 minutes, less time for smaller rounds. Makes about 30 servings.
