1 cup buttermilk
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups of pecan halves
1 tbsp butter or margarine

Directions:
Directions:
In a heavy pot, combine buttermilk, sugar, baking soda; stir until sugar is dissolved.
Put on medium heat, stir constantly until soft ball stage, it will be brownish in color.
Remove pan from heat and add 1 tbsp butter or margarine, vanilla and pecan halves.
Beat until it becomes glossy and starts to crystalize.
Quickly spoon out the candy into little patties about 2 inches wide on waxed paper or a greased cookie sheet.
Let cool.
If the mixture starts to turn sugary and harden too fast, return the pan to the heat for a few minutes, then spoon out again.
