Ingredients:  
• 1 ham bone
• 1 cup yellow split peas
• 1 onion chopped,1 clove garlic, 2 stalks celery chopped,1 bay leaf,1 sprig thyme (or ½ tsp. dried)
• Dash allspice, red pepper flakes and salt
• 6 cups water
• Diced cooked ham (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
~ Rinse peas and add to pot along with ham bone and other ingredients except ham.
~ Bring to boil, lower heat and let simmer for at least 60 minutes or until peas are tender.
~ Remove ham bone, bay leaf and thyme sprig (if used). Blend in batches to desired texture or just leave as is.
~ Add ham (if used) and heat through. Add pat of butter to each serving.
