1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (10-ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained (reserve juice)
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk

Directions:

Whisk flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder and baking soda in bowl. In separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy; beat in egg and vanilla. Beat in dry ingredients until incorporated. Shape into 1-inch balls. Make indentation in center with your thumb and fill each with a cherry. Place on foil-lined baking sheet.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt chocolate chips in double boiler or microwave. Stir in sweetened condensed milk and 4 teaspoons reserved cherry juice. Pour 1 teaspoon of mixture over each cookie. Bank 10 minutes for fudgy cookies, 15 minutes for firmer ones. Makes about 30 cookies.
