3 eggs
1½ C. sugar
1 C. Oil
1/2 C. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 2 tsp hot water
2 C. flour
1 tsp. each of salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla
1 C fig preserves with juice, chopped cut
1 C chopped nuts
powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs with mixer. Add sugar and oil, beat well. Combine buttermilk and soda mixture. Combine next 5 ingredients. Add alternately to egg mixture with soda mixture. Mix wel.. Stir in figs, nuts and vanilla. Beat well. Bake in 10 in. tube pan. 350º for 1 hour and 10-15 minutes.
Note: Chopped dates may be substituted for fig preserves.
