¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp salt
granulated sugar for rolling

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening. Cool.

Add sugar, molasses and egg to melted shortening. Beat well.

Add dry ingredients. Mix well. Chill for several hours.

Form into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake at 375º for 8 - 10 minutes. Cool on a rack.
