1 C butter
2 C. sugar
3 C. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
(or use 3 C self-rising flour)
4 eggs - separated.
1 C. milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 C. pecans
2 C. walnuts

Boiled Icing:
3 egg whites
2 C sugar
2/3 C, water
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
This is known as the 1,2,3,4 cake. Can be used for any 3-layer cake. Makes 6 thin layers

Beat butter and sugar and add yolks. Combine as usual, alternate flour and milk. Add pecans and walnuts. Bake in tube pan at 325º for 1 ½ hours.

Icing:
Mix sugar, cream of tartar and water. Cook until spins a thread. Beat egg whites stiff. Slowly pour sugar mixture into whites. Beat until completely mixed. Add vanilla.
