4 cups whole wheat or unbleached flour (or a combination)
1 Tbsp. (heaping) baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup (2 sticks) bitter
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients together in large bowl. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles large bread crumbs. Add beaten egg and mix. Add milk until dough is soft and smooth but not sticky. Use your hands to form into balls a little bigger than a ping pong ball then flatten them or roll them out and cut them into the desired size. Place in an ungreased baking pan. Bake at 350º for 12 - 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

These are the biscuits I have been making for years. I have always used whole wheat flour. Heidi was especially good at making them. The kids like them best hot.
