½ CUP BUTTER OR MARGARINE
½ CUP SHORTENING
2 CUPS FLOUR
2 EGGS
½ CUP BUTTERMILK
3 ½ TBSP COCOA
1 CUP WATER
2 CUPS SUGAR
1 TSP VANILLA
1 TSP SODA

FROSTING:
⅓ CUP MILK
½ CUP BUTTER OR MARGARINE
3 ½ TSP COCOA
3 ½ TO 3 CUPS POWDERED SUGAR (1#)
1 TSP VANILLA
CHOPPED NUTS (OPTIONAL)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. In medium saucepan, bring to boil butter, cocoa, shortening and water. Pour this over flour and sugar in a medium bowl. Mix and add eggs and vanilla. Mix soda into buttermilk and add to mixture. Spread in greased 18x12x1" pan. Bake for 20 minutes.


Frosting:
This should be a fairly thin frosting that will pour onto cake.

Before cake is cooled, in medium saucepan, mix milk, butter and cocoa. Bring to boil and add powdered sugar and vanilla. Add nuts, if desired. Pour on hot cake.
